Vintage Motorsports was contact by the
Ian Fleming Foundation to consult on the restoration of the Honda US90 driven by Sean Connery in the 1971 James Bond film, Diamonds Are Forever.
The story goes that there were three of these ATCs used in the movie, all donated by Honda. The ATCs were used by the bad guys as chase vehicles during the desert escape sequence starring Sean Connery.
The production company painted them the same color green used on all the bad guys' vehicles, including the Ford Galaxies which were also used in the chase. The only modifications to the stock 1970 US90 were antenna boxes and whips.
After completion of the movie, Honda took back two of the US90s and destroyed them. The third one was given to one of the writers or someone involved in the movie. It also happened to be the bike that was ridden by Sean Connery during the chase scene.
The last remaining US90 was taken from Las Vegas, where filming was done, and moved back to England where it was stored until now.
Through extensive searching, the Ian Fleming Foundation, a museum for many of the vehicles used in the James Bond movies, located the US90 in England.
The original owner has long passed, but his son still maintained possession until the foundation purchased it. The US90 was shipped back to the states to be restored and displayed at the foundation's museum.
Vintage Motorsports was involved in this restoration from day one, going over the bike to determine what had been changed over the years. Vintage motorsports also supplied necessary parts and provided expertise to help bring the US90 back to the condition as see in Diamonds Are Forever.
Anyone who knows about the Honda US90 remembers this bike from the James Bond classic. This special bike, having been ridden by Sean Connery, is truly a piece of history and Vintage Motorsports is proud to be involved.
